History
| Personal History | Ren Kannu was born in 2370 on the remote farming world of Gault to Ren Fuliar and Gemma Ren. Fuliar met Gemma several years after his arrival on Gault. Fuliar had managed to escape the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor. He killed the wealthy Cardassian family he was a slave for and used their wealth to bribe a Lurian freighter Captain to smuggle him off the planet and out of the system. Due to the status of the Cardassian family, he knew he was a wanted man, so he headed to the remote and quiet farming world of Gault. Ren met Gemma, a Human girl, who had just moved to the colony with her family from Earth. Fuliar told Gemma of his past and what had happened. They soon set up their own farm together. They began trading the goods they grew locally on Gault for what they needed, due to Fuliar's fear of being found. Several years later they married. Once Fuliar felt safe enough, he agreed to have a child. Gemma fell pregnant and several months later gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Kannu. Fuliar was desperate to return home but life was very good on Gault and the Ren family had put down roots well. He pushed aside his dreams of returning home for a life with his family. As the years passed Kannu grew into a fine young man. He helped his parents on the farm during school holidays and harvest seasons. He became a good pilot, flying the farmers' small cargo ship around the planet and other colonies in the system delivering fresh vegetables and fruit. His father always believed that using the transporter made the produce not as fresh so insisted on delivering them by hand. When he turned 18 he joined Starfleet Academy. He excelled at flight control and enjoyed the thrill of flying different ships and shuttles. He also undertook fighter pilot training too which he also thoroughly enjoyed. In 2391, he graduated from the Academy and was assigned to the USS Akira as helmsman. He enjoyed enjoyed his first assignment on the Akira, mainly due to the fact his was posted with several members of his class from the academy. In 2393, his posting to the Arika came to an end as the ship was pulled in for a major refit which would take around 18 months. He wasn’t pleased about losing the friends he’d gained while on board but the prospect of a fresh challenge was always exciting. He was assigned to Deep Space 7 as a Flight Operations assistant and was added to the fighter detachment as well. Ren loved the Flight Operations job, he was able to help coordinate incoming and outgoing ships as well as any other problems that cropped up. He enjoyed seeing the different ships coming through the station, he was also able to join in with the station's fighter contingent and keep his fighter skills sharp and up to date. When his assignment finished on Deep Space 7, he requested a starship assignment so was assigned to the USS Sarek as Chief Helmsman. This position came with even more responsibility as he was promoted to Lieutenant JG and made Chief of the Flight Control department. Ren relished the challenge and looked forward to pushing himself in this role. |
