History
| Personal History | Vannon Dacour was born in 2368 on Betazed to Anra Dacour and Ervan Tayuun, both serving Starfleet officers. Weeks after his birth, they returned to the Ambassador-class U.S.S. Heyerdahl, with Anra as Flight Control Officer and Ervan in Security. This began Vannon's nomadic childhood growing up aboard Starfleet ships as the family transferred to the Olympic-class U.S.S. Pandora in 2370. When the Dominion War erupted in 2373, Vannon's mother was promoted to Executive Officer of the Pandora while his father was reassigned to the Starfleet base in Medara on Betazed. Vannon went to live with his grandparents, suffering tragedy in 2374 when his father was killed by invading Jem'Hadar forces while evacuating civilians to the Loneel Mountains. In 2375, Anra Dacour adopted her sister's half-Klingon daughter Pazla after the girl's parents were killed during the Dominion War. Vannon and Pazla formed a close bond from the start, both having lost much during the war. They joined their mother in 2376 when she was assigned as Executive Officer on the new Galaxy-class U.S.S. Heyerdahl-A, and Vannon spent much of his teenage years aboard that ship. As a teenager aboard the Galaxy-class U.S.S. Heyerdahl-A, Vannon and Pazla had the vast ship's families' quarters and amenities as their playground. Though Pazla's half-Klingon heritage sometimes made her feel out of place, Vannon embraced her as a true sister. They formed an inseparable pair, but quickly made friends with the other children on the ship, joining youth groups and studying astrometrics together under their mother's tutelage. When not on the holodeck running flight simulators, Vannon could often be found in the Heyerdahl's stellar cartography bay, poring over star charts and historical battles with the zeal of a young man determined to follow his parents into Starfleet. This hands-on exposure to navigation and strategic planning gave him a considerable head start when he entered the Academy in 2381. Deeply affected by his father's sacrifice, which spurred on his decision to follow his parents' path, Vannon joined Starfleet Academy in 2381 on the command track, majoring in astrogation. At the Academy he became close friends with fellow cadets Odren Iladris, a young Trill who was his roommate, and Thea Goldfrapp, a younger cadet who was part of his simulator crew. Vannon's easy rapport with roommate Odren Iladris and their simulator crewmate Thea Goldfrapp helped them all excel under pressure. While Vannon pursued his astrogation specialty on the command track, he and Thea took extra tactical coursework, running increasingly complex battle scenarios to try and best each other at strategic knowledge. This extracurricular preparation would prove fortuitous after the 2385 Attack on Mars, which saw Vannon's class graduate early. Vannon's first commission saw him assigned as Flight Control Officer aboard the Soyuz-class U.S.S. Hera, one of Starfleet's oldest yet newly reactivated designs from the 2270s. One of several mothballed ships brought back into action after the catastrophe, Vannon embraced the challenge of serving on an old and outdated ship, eager to see if his skills were up to the test. With the Federation's ability to maintain its large fleet or produce new vessels crippled after the Attack on Mars, it fell to the older ships to take care of more menial tasks. The Hera spent over a year as a scout vessel in remote sectors normally ignored during peacetime operations as newer, more capable vessels were reassigned to more pressing assignments. In 2387, as the Romulan supernova crisis unfolded, Vannon transferred to the Nova-class U.S.S. Icarus monitoring the supernova's effects along the Romulan border region. This often hazardous duty along the far reaches of Federation space gave Vannon invaluable experience plotting complex escape vectors and discerning potential threats during first contact scenarios. His cool head made him a respected figure on the Icarus's bridge. From 2392 to 2401, Vannon served aboard the Luna-class U.S.S. Moonraker. He began as Chief Flight Control Officer, coordinating complex maneuvers like negotiating the anomaly-ridden Azure Nebula while pursuing rogue Romulan warbirds and Orion marauders alike. However, Vannon's strategic skills and deep knowledge of the tumultuous region saw him take on increasing responsibilities and he was later assigned as Strategic Operations Officer. He planned combat operations during skirmishes with Romulan warlords, like the Moonraker's confrontation at the Itari Outpost where his tactics utilizing narrow subspace transits caught the enemy forces by surprise. Vannon also coordinated hazardous away missions, such as retrieving personnel and data from the doomed Lanalur Observatory before its orbit decayed. In 2401, following the Frontier Day Attack on Earth, the Moonraker was reassigned along with most of its crew. Vannon was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and transferred to Outpost 915 on Arendis Prime as Chief Strategic Operations Officer, a position bound to put his experience to the test. Having spent most of his life on starships, Vannon was eager to serve on a planetary outpost and learn whatever the experience could teach him. |
