| Personal History | Stephen was born on February 26th, 2341 in the city of Hereford in England on Earth to Donald and Meredith Jacobs. As the elder of two sons, he had a generally happy childhood, though he and his younger brother Ivan grew apart over the years due to increasingly divergent personalities and viewpoints. From an early age, Stephen showed an aptitude for understanding people's motivations and behaviours. This interest solidified in his late teens, and in 2359 at age 18, he enrolled at Starfleet Academy to study psychology with the intent of becoming a counsellor. His academy years were focused and disciplined, and he graduated with honours in 2363, receiving his commission as an Ensign. Stephen's first assignment in 2364 was as a Junior Counselor at the Starfleet base on Aldebaran III, where he gained practical experience for several years. In 2367 whilst on leave he met Elissa Ross. They began a serious relationship and when in late 2368, Stephen transferred to serve as a Counsellor aboard the USS Heyerdahl, Elissa accompanied him. Less than a year later, in 2369, he was temporarily assigned to Venteris Prime.By this time Elissa had had her fill of Starships and StarFleet as a whole so deciding there was no future worth having with Stephen, she simply packed a bag and left him in his absence without word or reason intent on improving her prospects.Unable to track her down Stephen had no option but to accept the situation blaming himself for being unable to give her the time and lifestyle she desired. Venteris Prime, a non-Federation world, was in talks to become a protectorate following a recent Borg incursion. Tragically, suspected Orion Syndicate members assassinated the Director-General and a Federation diplomat involved in the negotiations. Twelve-year-old Simone Langford was present and witnessed her father's murder. Showing courage under fire, Stephen was able to rescue the traumatised young girl from the crisis zone. This formative experience helping Simone likely influenced his dedication to counselling youth and victims of violence. After returning from Venteris, Stephen remained on the Heyerdahl, his performance earning him a promotion to Lieutenant in 2376. He sought to branch out in 2373, taking a teaching role at Starfleet Academy as a lecturer in Conflict Mediation for four years to share insights while remaining hands-on. Stephen's wanderlust reasserted itself in 2377, and he requested a transfer to the Procyon Colony to work as a Counsellor at the Starfleet base there for two years. The challenges of colonial life provided new perspectives and a new if somewhat short relationship with Lynette Hammond. They parted amicably when new postings took them on different paths. His solid track record earned him a promotion to Lieutenant Commander in 2380 and transfer to the Heyerdahl-A once as Chief Counselor. However, in 2383 he rotated to Starbase 18 for several years as Chief Counselor. A fellow counsellor Julia Ferndell became an important part of his life to the point that marriage was discussed In 2385, Stephen was pulled for a confidential temporary assignment, the details remaining classified. Upon completion later that year, he resumed regular duties It became the norm that often either he or she was often called away eventually resulting in a fond and tested friendship that remains to this day. The next decades saw postings as Chief Counselor to the USS Halsted in 2395, Starbase 417 in 2398, and finally Outpost 915 in 2401 at the rank of Lt. Commander. Stephen consistently declined further promotions to remain an active counsellor. Throughout his career, the experience on Venteris Prime stayed with Stephen, driving his passion for ethical counselling practices to support mental wellbeing - especially for those impacted by trauma and violence. His proficiency made him an invaluable resource. |
