Personality & Traits

History

Personal History Rex McCormick was born December 2342 on Jouret IV. A Federation colony called New Providence in the beta quadrant. He lived there with his parents Esmay and Clint McCormick. Both were marine biologists and worked within the colony.

Esmay’s parents also lived in the colony. They moved there 2343 after Rex was born so they could see and help raise their grandchildren.

Clint’s parents lived a nomadic life due to their jobs as  traders.

Rex grew up within a loving family unit. Which grew over time to include a younger brother and sister.

As he got older he grew exceptionally close to his  grandfather, Thomas. Although they didn’t spend as much time together, they seemed to click really well and have a good bond between them.

As Rex got older, he was allowed to travel with his other grandparents on their travels during holidays from school. He was always amazed by their ship, the SS Broken Rose, it was quirky and housed many strange and unusual things that they had gathered on their travels. He liked to help his grandfather in engineering when the odd problem came up.

From these experiences he decided he wanted to join Starfleet and become and Engineer. He’d also be able to experience and see things he could only dream about if he stayed on Jouret IV like his parents wanted.

When he reached the age of 18, Rex applied for the academy and was accepted. Although unhappy with his choice, his parents supported their eldest son and waved him off as he headed for Earth.

Rex spent the next four years at Starfleet Academy, he excelled at Engineering thanks to the hands on experience his grandfather had given him on the SS Broken Rose.

In 2364, Rex graduated in the top 5% of his year. His family made the long trip from Jouret IV to see him graduate and spend some time with him before he was assigned to a Starship.

A couple of weeks after his graduation he was assigned to the USS Repulse, a New Orleans Class vessel as an engineer.

In 2366, while the Repulse was on patrol on the Cardassian border, the colony on Jouret IV was wiped from the face of the planet. This was later confirmed as the first Borg attack within Federation Space.

When the news finally reached Rex, that his parents, grandparents and siblings had all been killed, the Captain of Repulse, Captain Pearson, gave him some time off to grieve for such a massive and tragic loss to his family.

Rex slowly recovered from his ordeal with the support of his paternal grandparents and pushed on with his career.

In 2368, Rex’s tour on the Repulse ended. The ship was sent for a major refit and her crew were reassigned. Rex wanted to experience life on board a Starbase so put in for a transfer to Deep Space 5, where he joined the stations ship repair team. Any starships that came in needing repairs or upgrades Rex’s team was the ones to do it.

He thoroughly enjoyed his work on DS5, during his five year stay aboard the Station he rose to the rank of full Lieutenant and was in charge of his own team working on ships that came in. However, everything changed in 2373 when war broke out with the Dominion. He was reassigned to a Starship, the USS Ticonderoga, a Galaxy Class vessel as her assistant Chief Engineer.

Rex saw out most of the war on the Ticonderoga, he was promoted to Chief Engineer after the current Chief was killed in action. He was also promoted to Lieutenant Commander and made Second Officer during his time aboard the Ticonderoga.

Towards the end of the war Ticonderoga was badly damaged during an encounter with a squadron of Jem’Hadar fighters. During the battle both the Captain and First Officer were killed leaving McCormick the highest ranking officer. He took command and managed to save the ship and escape the squadron. This gave Rex his first real taste of proper command.

He was awarded the medal of honour for his actions during the engagement. However, with Ticonderoga so badly damaged and Starfleet lacking in man power the crew were quickly reassigned to ships needing the man power.

McCormick was reassigned to the Kumari as Chief Engineer. He saw out the rest of the war on the Kumari and participated in the final battle against the Dominion.

After the war finished McCormick transferred to a Nebula Class vessel, the USS Medway. The Medway’s mission was to help the Cardassian people get back on their feet. He was assigned as Chief Engineer but after a few months stepped up to first officer with the existing first officer stepping up to his first command.

In 2380 the Captain of the Medway decided to retire from Starfleet. McCormick took over as Commanding Officer for a further 3 years until the Medway was recalled for a major refit.

Starfleet promoted McCormick to Captain and gave him command of an Akira Class, the USS Ocelot. The Ocelot patrolled the Romulan border, helping after the Romulan government had been assassinated by Shinzon and the Romulan people were left to fend for themselves while there was a power struggle within the Empire.

After doing excellent work with the Romulans, Starfleet gave him command of the USS Rhea, a Luna Class vessel.

The Rhea’s first mission was to join a fleet led by Admiral Picard to help the Romulan Empire after their sun went supernova.

After that mission, McCormick and the Rhea were assigned to continue helping the Romulan people the best they could, providing aid and medical attention wherever possible. McCormick made a good name for himself in service of the Romulan people with the help he gave them.

At the end of 2393 the Rhea was called back for a minor refit but Starfleet saw this as the perfect opportunity to reward Rex. The newly commissioned USS Atreus, one of the last Sovereign Class vessels to be built, was given to McCormick to help him continue his work in the Romulan sector.
